"Campus Turned Processing Area" is a months-long investigation into 98 arrests made at a pro-Palestinian encampment on Northeastern's campus in April 2024. As arrests were made behind closed doors with no official video accounts, we interviewed a dozen arrested students to unearth and corroborate protesters' experiences with university administrators and police, in paddy wagons and in jail. The story won first place in in-depth reporting from the New England Newspaper & Press Association in the college division of the 2024 Better Newspaper Competition.

The judges wrote"This massive reporting effort by three Northeastern students provides needed accountability on the university's decision to arrest 98 at an anti-war encampment. The entire team at The Huntington News showed that reporting depth can be achieved in both short (69 published web updates over two days) and long form. The report by Annika Sunkara, Eli Curwin and Emily Spatz deserves to stand as the definitive account of this difficult passage in the school's history, thanks to their deep interviewing, eye for detail, and plain old shoe leather reporting."
