Students file federal civil rights complaint against Northeastern alleging anti-Palestinian discrimination

A group of more than a dozen students and alumni filed a complaint against Northeastern with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights Aug. 12, urging a federal investigation into the university’s handling of alleged discrimination against Palestinian and Palestine-supporting students before and after the October 2023 outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.

One student protester said police searched her bra. Another said police slammed him up against a wall, and then to the ground. For hours, as a third student protester tells it, police said they were not permitted to use the bathroom. They urinated on the jail floor instead.
